Vision
In different business units of a company, often completely different languages are used, sometimes even with overlapping acronyms. The resulting confusion makes for a hefty loss of productivity.
This can and should be improved upon by bridging the gap between functional demand and technical supply. Realizing this is my biggest challenge. My added value is applying combined knowledge of technique, business and communications.
Mission
I aim to have all involved work as efficient as possible, keeping in mind that it's not just about getting the result, the way there is equally important in the long run.
Then what
Getting results the wrong way will pose major headaches afterward, when changes need to be implemented, resulting in extra work, failure to deliver on time and frustration all round as the immediate result. I hope to be able to forgo on these kind of situations by embedding stakeholder effort & involvement from start to finish, making maximum use of available competences.
Still often between demand and supply things go horribly wrong. Pay close attention or one or both parties make a bunch of assumptions, sometimes based on different vocabulary, increasing chances of a result greatly different from the requested solution.
Many workarounds have been introduced to get around this, naming a few:
- forming multidisciplinary teams keeping the customer involved in all phases from design through implementation.
- Defining elaborate project documents, leaving no room whatsoever for imagination or free interpretation
- Outsourcing to an external - specialized - supplier, with unpredictable results. Communicating effectively within your organization is difficult, introducing an external party does not make things easier.
- Using frameworks like ITIL, Prince2, BiSL, Togaf stricter then very strict, taking responsibility away from actual specialists. Might as well hire some monkeys to do the job and hope things turn out well.
Above so called solutions don't really work well as many people have found. The solution is simple as can be: COMMUNICATION, simple goals, honest discussions and using the right people to get the intended result, giving them the power to make things happen.
Contact HajoBakker Consultancy if this manner of working is to your liking and if you require someone to support your organization.
